Mental Health Counseling with Shania!

Do you ever ask yourself? “Why does this keep happening?” “Why do I feel so stuck?” “Why am I exhausted from trying to hold everything together?” When life doesn’t unfold the way we expected—when we feel unmotivated, disconnected, or unable to “launch”—the question often becomes: What’s wrong with me?

My goal is to help you define what success means while learning to accept all of the steps along the way that we are taught to hide. I work with adolescents (12+) and adults navigating trauma, life transitions, substance use recovery, immigration and acculturation stress, and perinatal challenges. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling lost, overwhelmed by repeated outcomes, or worn down by systems that were meant to support them.

My approach is collaborative, encouraging, and direct. I integrate CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Prolonged Exposure Therapy to support healing, self-advocacy, and meaningful change. Therapy with me is a space to rebuild a sense of self, redefine success on your terms, and move toward a life that feels more grounded, connected, and your own. To fall short, to slip up, to be afraid or shy is to be free in your life "You were made to Try, Fail, and Overcome."

Best Regards,

Shania Rajcoomar

Utilizing the process of thoughts to help one understand their actions and behaviors. This approach helps individuals to  have deeper understanding of themselves while helping them to change and unwanted behavior.

Motivational Interviewing

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

A collaborative, empathetic, and client-centered counseling approach that is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.  Instead of confronting or advising, it uses open-ended questions and reflective listening to empower individuals to explore their own reasons for change.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

A treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that involves gradually confronting trauma-related memories and situations. Through imaginal and real life exposure, patients repeatedly tell the story of their trauma to a therapist and  gradually face avoided situations in real life. This helps patients learn that the feared memories and situations are not dangerous, which decreases their PTSD symptoms.
